Welcome back to Deep Dive, Tom Aznable’s reader-favorite column all about catching the more esoteric aspects of the Gundam multiverse that make it into the show. Nothing passes Tom’s eagle eye for spotting this stuff (we suspect Newtype abilities), but this column focuses specifically on rare sightings and deep cuts. Read on to see what you may have missed:
A Personal Appeal from Patrick Colasour (Gundam 00)
It’s the norm for Patrick to show up in unexpected places at this point, but I don’t think anyone was counting on him being a representative for G-Pedia, the “Free Gundam Encyclopedia” clearly inspired by Wikipedia. He’s not here leading a donation drive however, but asking for the help of users in what he calls the “Immortal Project.” This is definitely a reference to his derisive nickname “The Immortal Colasour,” but here probably has more to do with the work on Wiki…er, G-Pedia never being finished. The existence of G-Pedia itself is yet another example of Re:RISE presenting the more online cultural aspects of the Build Divers universe.
MS IGLOO: Apocalypse 0079 DVD Release Poster
During May’s flashback to her “birth,” we briefly get to see original Build Divers series characters Sarah, Nanami, Koichi, and Tsukasa again. This looks like it’s probably Tsukasa’s room, and above his lightbox he has a poster up for the DVD release of the second part of the original MS IGLOO series. Considering that MS IGLOO’s main character is an engineer, and that it has a reputation for being aimed squarely at hardcore Gundam nerds, it fits that Tsukasa would be a fan.
Peacock Smasher, Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam: Skullheart (manga)
While Kazami’s Justigguy mostly carries equipment reminiscent of its namesake Gundam Justice Knight, it uses the Crossbone Gundam X-1 Skullheart’s distinctive crossbow-like Peacock Smasher to shoot off some fireworks. The original Peacock Smasher is a nine-barreled beam rifle, its bizarre name likely owing to the fanning out of the barrels akin to a peacock’s tail.
